Progress up to July 2010
- We are in the third year of our program. We started training women in maternal and child care in April 2008. Now we conduct 3-4 induction training sessions per month and 6-8 refresher training sessions.
- In 2009 we trained over 1000 women in health care out of which about 450 were designated as Health Activists (“Swasthya Sakhi”). We work in over 700 villages.
- We also trained 35 master trainers in June 2009.
- We have expanded the program to Babina, Jhansi in Nov ’09.
- On 26 Dec 09, ten trainers from Karnataka received training. Our team subsequently traveled to Chickbalapur in Karnataka and launched a health literacy program.
- We have launched eye care program. About 100 actvisits have been trained in the detection of cataract and minor eye ailments. The patients sre referred to eye doctors for further care.

Project plan for 2010
- We will train 800 more volunteer health activists to cover about 1000 villages by the end of 2010.
- Expand our activity in Chickbalapur district in Karnataka and Phoolpur in UP and Babina, Jhnasi.
- Continue refresher training for activists who are already in the field.
- Launch pilot programs in neonatal mortality reduction, reproductive health and TB eradication.
- Connect health activists to local primary health centers and local hospital and train them in management of primary health centers.
- Program impact analysis to make improvements.
- Scale up the program to other districts. Pilot programs in Jhansi and Phoolpur in June 2009
- Launch chapters in various cities in the USA and India.
- Link with various organizations in India, USA and Africa doing similar work.
Long Term Plan:
- We are evolving into health literacy and activism organization and its impact will extend beyond maternal and infant mortality. The activists will gradually evolve and demand health as a human right.
- We will start a Center for Innovations in Public Health to develop health care solutions for the poor.
